Rachel Bailey has a new dog

Here at the LoveCats, we're fans of cats, dogs, and all furry, feathered and scaly friends. So I'd like to introduce you to the new boy in my pack.

This is Reuben, and he's a blue and white greyhound. He's 9 years old and he had a bit of a rough early life, but he's found his forever home here with us.

He loves going for walks - we do two shorter walks a day since most of my pack are a bit older - and he loves meal times. But I think his favourite thing is beds. Not just dog beds, but great big beds. His nightly bed is a sofa bed - we used to leave it in a sofa and the dogs could sleep on it, but Reuben was uncertain with the long, narrow shape (he'd never been on a couch), so we opened it up and he fell in love. He has a quilt and lots of pillows, and once he's on it, it's hard to get him up. He barely even lifts his head. He just lies still and emits a satisfied moan, then goes to sleep.

Since I'm in a mood to talk about dogs (though, when am I ever not in a mood to talk about dogs?), tell me the cutest thing your dog or cat does, or the cutest thing you've ever seen a dog or cat do.

  1. Oh, isn't Reuben such a dapper gentleman with that lovely red collar? He is gorgeous!
Still no dogs in this household and I doubt there will be...sigh.
Cute things; our cat always sits on my husband's knee at the dinner table. Our meals always start out with the doc pulling his chair close to the table and squeezing himself in so there's no room for Tana, but always, always the cat jumps onto his knee, flicks his head up between the doc's body and the table and sits there waiting for his own dinner plate (which he doesn't get obviously!). I think he thinks he's human!

    1. Louisa, I love it! And the part I laughed at the most is that the doc seems to fall for it every time, and Tana wins every time. :)

  2. In the seventies, my dog (Terrier/Chihuahua) was allowed to drink rye/coke (long before the "experts" said not to do so). She'd lap it up and it would go up her nose, causing her to sneeze. By rewarding her for sneezing, she soon learned how to do it without needing the drink first (silly dog). Quite the trick....

She never could learn how to roll over (probably too upsetting for her frail bones), although she DID sit (especially before sneezing).

    1. Goodness, Laney -I've never heard of a dog learning how to sneeze on her own. What an amazing dog. (And I might just steal that and give it to a dog character in a book one day!)

  3. Hi Rachel

And hello gorgeous Reuben so cute :)

We have a Maremma named Casper he is big and white and loves his toys he has a big tub on the back patio with his toys in and put his head to find the one he wants to play with he is pretty much a backyard dog but of course there are times that he is inside and he loves to brig a toy in with him, he is so cute with them he loves us to throw them for him he then catches them and runs so we have to chase him. And next we are getting 2 kittens :)

    Have Fun

    1. Two kittens, Helen? My goodness! Crossing all the fingers and paws at this house for lots of photos. :)

Aw, I'm loving the visual of Casper coming inside with one of his toys. What a sweetheart!

  4. Hehe since I was already aware of Reuben, my two thought responses to the blog title were "what's new?" and "what, another one?"
    Love the Reuben photos.
Will have to think about cute pet behaviour, it's been a while.

  5. Awww what a sweetheart! He's got such a charming, handsome face. I would love to be surrounded with beautiful furbabies all day like you are. One day when I'm living in a proper house!

My mum's dog has quite a few funny little habits. One that I love is when she "nests" at night, which involves her turning in circles in her doggy bed, punching the bed with her little paws to fluff it up in all the right spots so she can wriggle down into the fluffy fabric. Too cute.

    1. Stef, I love watching dogs nest! Your description is super cute - you need to write that into a book. :)

  7. Oh he's just gorgeous Rach! Such a sweet face.
I love watching our fur babies - one cat and one dog - standing face to face. The dog is all wiggly tail, wiggly body excitement as she edges ever closer for a nose to nose sniff. While the (much smaller) cat is pure ambivalent boredom. So funny to watch.
